In the middle of the jungle! Would you sleep here? In the middle of the jungle! Would you sleep here? . Experiences are very different, and preferences are very subjective. I prefer the places that take me out of my comfort zone and offer an authentic experience, even though it is imperfect. Finding local experiences can be a hard task, but not impossible! . I knew I wanted to experience something different once on the Bocas del Toro islands. So while most tourists prefer to stay downtown Isla Colon, we decided to book a cottage in the middle of the jungle. A place without proper windows, only with mosquito nets, without hot water but with an outdoor cold shower. We had electricity and internet access, a fully equipped kitchen and an inside toilet. And we even had our own patio to chill during the evenings. To get to the water taxi area, we had to take the local bus, which took half an hour for the 8 kilometers drive. Yes, the road is terrible and bumpy! . Would we do it again? Anytime! 📍Carenero Island( Panama🇵🇦 )Mini Guide . 📍Carenero Island( Panama🇵🇦 )Mini Guide . Isla Carenero is just a quick 1-2 minute water taxi ride away from Isla Colon. For 2$, a boatman will take you on the island's east side to some lovely beaches! Most likely, the area will be deserted, and you'll have the all place to yourself! . If you want to see this island's beauty, go hiking. The path along the coastline is easy to follow, not so demanding, and you can stop as often as you like to soak up the views. Once you reach the north side of the island, the waves we'll be rough, and you might spot some surfers playing around. Plan at least one hour for the hike. . On the west side, you'll reach the resort area: green, charming and neat! Stop for lunch or a cold drink! . Follow the trail and 5 minutes later, you'll bump into an authentic and vibrant area! It's where the locals live and might be so different from what you've witnessed so far! Out of respect, we decided not to take photos here! . You can take a boat back to Isla Colon from here for 1$ only. Or walk further to the beach area and wait for a boat.
