You’ve probably seen it on postcards or Instagram, but seeing it in real life is something else entirely. Nestled on the island’s northwest coast, this dramatic cove is famous for its rusting shipwreck and crystal-clear turquoise waters.

Can you visit Navagio Beach?

This is where things get a bit tricky. Due to rockfall risks from the towering cliffs above, access to the beach itself is sometimes restricted or completely closed. The situation can change from season to season (or even week to week), so it’s always worth checking locally before you go.

That said—don’t skip it.

Even if you can’t step onto the sand, Navagio is still one of the most breathtaking sights in Greece and absolutely worth seeing.

3. Gerakas Beach 

A beautiful beach with a purpose – Gerakas is one of the island’s most important nesting sites for the endangered Caretta Caretta (loggerhead sea turtles). Because of this, there are a few rules in place to protect them, including leaving the beach before sunset (usually around 7 p.m.).

The setting is lovely: a wide stretch of golden sand backed by clay cliffs, with calm, shallow water that’s perfect for swimming – especially with kids.

There are no large facilities directly on the beach, which helps keep it natural and peaceful, but you’ll find a few small shops nearby selling drinks, snacks, and beach essentials. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for rent, and on the far right side, there’s a more secluded area sometimes used by naturist visitors.

We loved how quiet and spacious it felt – definitely one of the more relaxing spots on the island.

During the bathing period, you’re not allowed to place towels or umbrellas on the first few meters of sand near the shoreline (usually around 4 meters), so the turtles have a safe space to nest.

That said, this beach ended up being one of our absolute favorites on the island. We had no idea how close the turtles would come to shore. At times, we were swimming alongside them in surprisingly shallow water. We were so glad we had our goggles with us, as seeing them in their natural habitat was such a special experience.

One of our personal favorites and easily one of the best beaches in Zakynthos is Banana Beach. This long stretch of soft golden sand has a lively but still relaxed vibe, making it perfect for a full beach day.

The beach is well-organized, with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent, as well as a few beach bars and restaurants where you can grab food or enjoy a cocktail by the water.

It can get a bit windy here (we definitely felt it!), but honestly, it didn’t take away from the experience. If anything, it made the heat more bearable and added to that classic “wild beach” feeling.

Despite the breeze, we absolutely loved it here. The combination of soft sand, clear water, and great atmosphere made it one of the spots we kept thinking about long after we left.
